Where there are no "surprises"....
When someone gives you an estimate on the job you want done, there shouldn't be a huge surprise bill at the end. If a problem arises during your restoration, you will be informed BEFORE proceeding. I take great pride in my work and in my customers satisfaction.
I don't think my piece is fixable....
Alot of people don't, and lose priceless heirlooms because of inexperience. Almost anything can be fixed and with the right professional they can be informed as to whether something can be repaired or whether it is truly "unfixable". Just ask me. If I can't fix it, then it can't be done.
Why can't I just do it myself?
Maybe you can. There are alot of DIY guides out there and for small projects it might not be a bad idea. But for professional results and a job done right the first time, an experienced refinisher is the way to go. Many people make mistakes the first few times they try, and refinishing that beautiful dining room table for Thanksgiving by yourself could be a costly and embarrassing mistake.
